Despite drawing comics full-time for over a decade, almost all of my output was on other people's projects. I always wanted to do comics of my own, but somehow, I never did much. I did make a few very short comics, and even a 30-page issue featuring my vigilante character, The Dagger. But the ongoing comic I itched to do always eluded me. Maybe I didn't feel comfortable as a writer, or maybe I didn't feel like I had a good enough idea. I played around with various concepts, but nothing seemed to catch.
But eventually, the time came when I simply knew I had to get it done, whether I felt I was ready or not. I knew that my most successful attempt at making my own comic previously -- the 30-page The Dagger vs. Necrobat -- had been more a product of brute force than divine inspiration. So I picked one of those half-baked concepts, and I resolved to treat it as an exercise in simply going forward no matter what. Like Ember on this very page, I would not let anything stand in my way.
I'll make mistakes, I'll have seconds thoughts too late, and if I keep this up long enough, I'm sure I'll come to regret this seat-of-the-pants approach sometimes. But I spent over a decade trying to plan my way into making this comic, and I never made a page. By just stupidly barreling forward, I've got 47 pages in various states of completion so far. So I'm gonna keep doing that. I hope you all find it entertaining, because I know I am!
